The Village boasts an upmarket shopping district offering visitors all the retail options of a small town. Havelock North has a relaxed cafe culture thanks to a fine selection of local bistros, bars, coffee shops and restaurants. There are two excellent coffee roasteries - Hawthorne Coffee on Napier Road and Bay Expresso which have cafes in the Village and Hastings.

Havelock North and Hawke's Bay offer a huge range of different types of fishing. The Tukituki River is the most frequently fished and accessible river in the Hawke's Bay Region providing over 300km of highly productive water. Havelock North has access to many safe cycleways and pathways. The extensive Rotary Pathway can be accessed by River Road and the cyclist can venture for kilometers along the Tukituki River to the coastal link that goes to Napier and beyond.
